Over 100 abstracts have been received for WasteCon 2010. The abstracts have been adjudicated by the technical review committee and those accepted are currently being drafted into papers by the various authors. The papers will then be peer reviewed by the technical review committee before final acceptance.
Once this step has been completed a final conference programme will be compiled. This will be released in early August 2010.
Paper abstracts covering a wide range of topics have been received, the main themes emerging are:
- Waste minimization and recycling
- Legislation and service delivery
- Landfill design and operations
- Landfill gas extraction and CDM
- Waste to energy projects and opportunities
- Ewaste collection, recycling and disposal
- Social issues related to waste management
Workshop sessions are planned for the Wednesday afternoon with themes covering:
- Department of Environmental Affairs - Workshop on the Development of a Waste Classification System for South Africa.
- Recovery Action Group – Development of an Industry Waste Management Plan for the Packaging and Paper Industries.
